In a decisive move to curb black marketing and fuel hoarding, authorities in Bhubaneswar have imposed limits on the sale of petrol and diesel at fuel stations across the city.
As per the directive issued by the regional sales authorities, petrol pumps have been instructed to cap fuel sales in a single transaction. The sale of petrol is now limited to 50 litres per transaction, while high-speed diesel has been capped at 500 litres.
Strict Compliance Guidelines for Fuel Stations
Fuel station operators have been directed to strictly adhere to the new guidelines. Authorities have issued a clear warning that any violation could lead to suspension of fuel supply to the concerned outlet.
Petrol pumps have also been advised to avoid bulk transactions and ensure transparent sales practices.
Move Aimed at Preventing Black Marketing
Officials stated that the decision has been taken to prevent misuse of fuel supplies, particularly in the form of black marketing and hoarding.
Sources indicate that industrial diesel is currently priced significantly higher than commercial diesel, leading to bulk purchases from retail fuel outlets. The cap on diesel sales is intended to address this issue and maintain fair distribution.
Relaxation Allowed with Valid Proof
Authorities have provided limited flexibility in cases where vehicles have larger fuel tank capacities. In such situations, additional fuel may be supplied upon verification of valid documentation confirming the vehicle’s requirements.
No Fuel Shortage, Clarify Officials
Officials have clarified that the restrictions are not due to any fuel shortage or external geopolitical factors. Instead, the move is purely a regulatory step to ensure fair usage and prevent exploitation of fuel pricing differences.
The new fuel sale limits in Bhubaneswar highlight the administration’s proactive approach to maintaining transparency and preventing black marketing. Authorities have urged both fuel station operators and consumers to cooperate in ensuring smooth implementation of the directive.
