A Class 4 girl was reportedly assaulted by her teacher at a private coaching institute in Dumduma Phase-2, Bhubaneswar, after she struggled with a mathematics lesson.
The alleged attack left the child bleeding near her left eye, prompting immediate hospitalization.
According to the victim’s family, the teacher beat the student so severely that she sustained a deep injury close to her eye. She was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors confirmed the injury is serious but not life-threatening. The child remains under close medical supervision.
Following the incident, the family lodged a formal complaint at the Khandagiri police station, demanding strict action against both the teacher and the coaching center’s management. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Local residents expressed outrage, calling for tighter regulation of private educational institutions, many of which operate with minimal oversight. As of now, neither the accused teacher nor the coaching center has issued a public statement.
This incident has reignited concerns over student safety and the prevalence of corporal punishment in Odisha’s private education sector.
