The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially resumed its Olympic Solidarity Programme with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), marking a major milestone in India’s sporting governance.
The decision comes after the IOA and the Government of India implemented significant reforms to strengthen athlete support and institutional transparency.
In a letter to IOA President P.T. Usha, the IOC commended two pivotal developments: the appointment of Raghuram Iyer as IOA’s Chief Executive Officer and the adoption of the National Sports Governance Act. These steps were seen as transformative in building a robust foundation for Indian sport.
“This reflects our shared commitment—from the IOA to the Government of India—to uphold the highest standards of governance in sport,” said P.T. Usha. She added that the renewed partnership will play a vital role in helping Indian athletes realize their Olympic dreams.
The reinstated Olympic Solidarity Programme will provide direct funding and development opportunities to athletes, supporting their training, preparation, and participation in global competitions. The move is expected to benefit athletes from grassroots to elite levels, reinforcing India’s ambition to become a global sporting powerhouse.
