A chicken shop owner was killed, and his son was critically injured in a brutal attack allegedly sparked by an old rivalry at Jena Sahi under Randia Panchayat.
The incident occurred late Tuesday night during Ganesh immersion festivities when a group of assailants targeted Laxmidhar Jena and his son Parshuram Jena with glass bottles and sharp weapons. Laxmidhar succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Parshuram sustained severe wounds.
Parshuram was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Kataka, where his condition remains critical. Reports suggest Laxmidhar had longstanding disputes with local residents, which may have triggered the assault.
Police from Bhadrak Rural Station reached the scene promptly and launched an investigation. Four suspects have been arrested, with further details awaited.
