Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested two members of a women’s gang at Bhubaneswar railway station who disguised themselves as beggars to loot passengers of gold.
The gang operated by posing as beggars during the day and turning into looters at night. They targeted unsuspecting passengers on platforms, snatched valuables, and attempted to smuggle stolen gold through trains. RPF officials apprehended two women from platform number one and seized gold worth ₹20 lakh from their possession.
Investigators revealed that the gang had been active in the Bhubaneswar station for several days. They disguised themselves to avoid suspicion and blended with beggars roaming the platforms. Their modus operandi involved begging from passengers and then swiftly snatching ornaments before escaping into crowded areas.
The arrest highlighted the growing challenge of disguised criminals targeting railway passengers. Authorities confirmed that the seized gold was being transported illegally through trains. RPF officials said they will intensify surveillance at major stations to prevent similar incidents.
The successful operation drew praise from passengers and railway staff, who commended RPF for cracking down on the gang. Officials assured that further investigation is underway to identify other members involved in the loot.
