The Board of Control for Cricket in India has fined Ajinkya Rahane ₹12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the recent IPL 2026 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.
This penalty comes under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences.
First Offence, ₹12 Lakh Fine
Since it was KKR’s first over-rate offence of the season, Rahane received a fine of ₹12 lakh.
He is now the fourth captain in IPL 2026 to be penalized for the same issue, highlighting a growing concern around slow over-rates this season.
Other Captains Penalized This Season
- Shreyas Iyer – fined ₹12 lakh and ₹24 lakh for two offences
- Shubman Gill – fined ₹12 lakh
- Ruturaj Gaikwad – fined ₹12 lakh
KKR Hit Rock Bottom in IPL 2026
The season has been disastrous for Kolkata Knight Riders so far:
- Winless in first 5 matches
- Sitting at the bottom of the points table
- Lost multiple consecutive matches
KKR’s only point came from a rain-abandoned match, with defeats against teams like Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and CSK.
Worrying Losing Streak
KKR have now lost six consecutive IPL matches, including games from the previous season. This equals their second-longest losing streak in IPL history.
Their worst run remains a nine-match losing streak in 2009.
What This Means for KKR
The combination of:
- Poor form
- Captaincy pressure
- Disciplinary penalties
has put immense pressure on Ajinkya Rahane and the team management.
KKR will need a strong comeback to stay relevant in the tournament.
The fine on Rahane adds to Kolkata Knight Riders’ struggles in IPL 2026. With performance and discipline both under scrutiny, the team faces a critical phase in the tournament.
