A Sub‑Inspector posted at Baripada Town Police Station has been arrested following a complaint by a woman from Puri, who alleged that he cheated her on the pretext of marriage and later threatened her.
The accused, identified as SI Prabhat Kumar Nayak, allegedly came into contact with the woman through Facebook. According to her complaint, Nayak promised marriage and maintained a physical relationship with her for a prolonged period.
The woman further alleged that when she insisted on marriage, Nayak subjected her to mental and physical harassment, took money from her, and even threatened her with his service pistol.
Following the complaint, Baripada Town Police registered Case No. 542 dated August 22, 2026 and initiated investigation. SDPO Sadar Baripada, Prabhat Kumar Mallick, confirmed that a case has been registered and the matter is under probe.
Police said strict action will be taken against the accused officer, and further investigation is underway.
