In a strong message against illegal sex determination and female foeticide, authorities have sealed a registered ultrasound centre in Soro, Baleshwar district, following serious violations of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act.
A joint team from the Baleshwar district administration and the Revenue Department carried out a surprise inspection at the facility after receiving specific information about irregularities. Based on preliminary findings, the centre has been immediately sealed.
The inspecting team found multiple clear breaches of the PC&PNDT Act and rules:
- Failure to submit the mandatory Form-F online for a prolonged period
- Doctor’s name, qualifications, and registration number not displayed in the ultrasound room
- Essential records and documents not properly maintained
All relevant documents, equipment, and other evidence have been seized and secured. Digital materials recovered from the centre are currently under examination. Once the full investigation is complete, legal notices will be issued and further action taken as per law.
The Health and Family Welfare Department has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against sex-selective practices. Officials emphasised that strict enforcement of the PC&PNDT Act will continue across Odisha to protect the girl child and prevent female foeticide.
This latest action in Balasore demonstrates the state’s commitment to ensuring every diagnostic centre follows the law without exception.
