A tragic bus accident on National Highway 16 near Khantapada injured more than 30 passengers on Sunday morning. Seven victims remain in critical condition at Balasore hospital.
The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. when the Ashirbad bus stopped at Khantapada bus stand to drop passengers. At that moment, a speeding Pani Coach bus from Bhubaneswar rammed into the stationary vehicle from behind. The impact threw passengers off their seats and left both buses severely damaged.
Local residents rushed to the scene and helped transport the injured to Khantapada Medical. Doctors immediately treated dozens of passengers, while seven critically injured individuals were shifted to Balasore hospital for advanced care.
Witnesses reported chaos as passengers screamed for help. Rescue teams and police quickly arrived, ensuring medical support and clearing traffic on the busy highway. Authorities confirmed that most passengers sustained injuries ranging from fractures to head trauma.
