The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday claimed a resounding victory in over 81 per cent of campuses across Odisha following the student union elections held after an eight-year hiatus.
Terming the verdict a victory for nationalist thought, the student body stated that the results reflect overwhelming support from young Gen Z voters.
Addressing a press conference, ABVP State Secretary Diptimayee Pratihari thanked Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj for conducting the long-awaited polls.
According to ABVP figures, the organisation secured victories in 8 out of 13 state universities, winning 8 president, 8 vice-president, 10 secretary, and 11 assistant general secretary posts.
Reports indicate ABVP led in 117 of 337 institutions, while BCJD won 71 and NSUI won two.
ABVP swept the entire panel at Utkal University and won all posts except the president’s position at Ravenshaw University. However, acknowledging losses at Rama Devi Women’s University and Ravenshaw, Pratihari committed to reviewing internal shortcomings while accusing rival parties of using money and muscle power.
She reiterated that ABVP will continue championing student rights year-round.
