Music composer Anirudh Ravichander has once again proven why he is one of the most sought-after musical talents in Indian cinema. The hit track ‘Raga of Revenge’ from the newly released Tamil film DC—starring director Lokesh Kanagaraj in his acting debut alongside Wamiqa Gabbi—has taken social media and music charts by storm.
Now, Anirudh has revealed that the fan-favorite track wasn’t initially conceptualized as a standalone album single, but was composed in a high-pressure 48-hour window for a film festival trailer.
A Last-Minute Cannes Deadline
In a recent conversation with Mashable India and Sun TV, Anirudh broke down the fast-paced origin story behind the viral theme.
”This was made not as a track. It was made because this film’s trailer was to be played in Cannes,” Anirudh explained. “Just a couple of days before we had to submit it—probably about 48 hours before—we got to know that the trailer would be sent to the film festival, so I had to score for the trailer.”
Recognizing the potential of the soundscape, the team decided to drop the theme online early, well ahead of the film’s theatrical promo window. The response was immediate, with fans demanding an official, standalone audio release of the theme music.
Blending North and South India for a Global Stage
Knowing the trailer was heading to an international platform like the Cannes Film Festival, Anirudh wanted the soundscape to showcase the rich diversity of traditional Indian music to a global audience.

”I loaded the visual and it was going to Cannes, and I thought, let us be as Indian as it can be,” Anirudh shared. “We started with the rhythm first—a proper South Indian beat—and then the North came in. Once I had the vocals, I started producing it.”
