Angul: An eight-year-old boy was killed after being dragged into the Mahanadi River by a crocodile in the Tikarpada area of Angul district, on Saturday.
The identity of the deceased minor boy is yet to be ascertained.
According to sources, the boy was playing on the banks of the Mahanadi River when a crocodile emerged from the water and dragged the child in. Upon being informed by locals, fire brigade personnel launched a search operation for the child. The minor boy’s body was fished out following a frantic search by the firefighting officials.
A pall of gloom descended on the village after the child’s death.
