Birmingham: Boxer Amit Panghal defeated Namri Berri of Vanuatu in the first round match of the Men’s Boxing 51kg Event to reach the quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Panghal marched into the men’s flyweight quarter-final after beating Namri Berri by a 5-0 unanimous decision.
As the first and only Indian male boxer to win a world boxing championships silver medal and the current world No. 1 in the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) 52kg category, the diminutive pugilist stands as a giant in Indian boxing today.
