All government schools in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district will remain closed today following the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) red warning for extremely heavy rainfall.
Authorities confirmed that private schools have also been directed to suspend classes after 10 am in view of worsening weather conditions. The precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of students amid the adverse forecast.
The IMD alert comes as a low‑pressure area has formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions, expected to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of Odisha.
Officials further warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in Mayurbhanj and neighbouring districts, urging residents to remain indoors and follow safety advisories.
