New Delhi: A severe military confrontation erupted near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Monday, leading to heightened tensions between the two nations. Afghanistan accused Pakistan of killing eight of its citizens in two air strikes. Islamabad confirmed terming the attack as “intelligence-based anti-terrorist operations” inside the neighbouring country.
In retaliation, the Taliban government fired at Pakistani troops along the border. The incident sparked a war of words between the two countries, with Pakistan accusing Afghanistan of sheltering terrorists and the Taliban denying the charge.
Pakistan has been accusing Afghanistan of sheltering TTP (Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan) terrorists and using them to spread terror on Pakistan soil.
Denying all allegations from the Pakistani side, Zabiullah Mujahid, from the Taliban administration released a warning statement saying, “Pakistan shouldn’t blame Afghanistan for the lack of control, incompetence and problems in its own territory. Such incidents can have very bad consequences which will not be in Pakistan’s control.”
On Saturday (March 16), seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in an attack on a security post in Mir Ali in North Waziristan. For which the country’s President, Asif Ali Zardari vowed retaliation action, leading to the current escalation.
