An Assam Rifles jawan was killed, and four others sustained injuries after a patrol team came under a suspected militant attack along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Tuesday.
The deceased personnel has been identified as 42-year-old Havildar Jankhokai Kuki.
According to officials, the ambush took place at approximately 6:30 AM near Nampong Nallah under the Nampong Circle. Personnel belonging to the 21 Assam Rifles were conducting a routine patrol in an area where border fencing work was actively underway.
Reports indicate that suspected insurgents opened sudden fire on the patrol party, resulting in casualties.
The injured security personnel were promptly evacuated from the area and rushed for emergency medical treatment. Detailed updates regarding their current medical condition are awaited.
Changlang Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu confirmed that local law enforcement received reports regarding the border incident.
“We have received information about the incident that occurred along the IMB and have asked the OC of Changlang police station to collect all information related to it,” SP Padu stated.
In the wake of the attack, security forces have launched massive cordon-and-search operations to track down the assailants. The India-Arunachal border region in Changlang remains a sensitive zone due to the historical presence and cross-border movement of insurgent outfits operating across the international boundary.
An official statement from the Assam Rifles regarding the operational details and the identities of the attackers is expected shortly.
