Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in all 21 NDA-ruled states before 2029.

Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai, Shah said the move reflects the government’s “India First” approach in tackling long-pending internal issues and strengthening national security.

The UCC seeks to establish a common set of personal laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption irrespective of religion. Shah highlighted that the government had already introduced the UCC in several states and expressed confidence that all NDA-ruled states would adopt it within the next three years.

He also underscored the government’s security policy, citing surgical strikes, air strikes, and Operation Sindoor as examples of a “zero tolerance” approach towards terrorism. Shah said India had moved from an era of corruption and dynastic politics before 2014 to “performance-based politics” under the BJP-led government.

Shah pointed to India’s economic progress, noting that the country had risen from the “Fragile Five” to the top five global economies, with GDP growth of 7.8% in the first quarter. He also emphasised the government’s handling of Article 370, Naxalism, and Northeast challenges, describing them as long-standing issues now being addressed.

On the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Shah said discussions were underway in Manipur, while reiterating that illegal migrants would be identified and removed. He also announced a month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan” from September 17 to October 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service, with programmes planned across states and constituencies.
