In the first major administrative action following the Satya Niketan hostel collapse that killed seven people, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has suspended five officials from its South Zone, including the Deputy Commissioner.
An order issued by the MCD’s Vigilance Department stated: “The Deputy Commissioner, South Zone, is hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect as per DMC Services (Control & Appeal) Regulations, 1959. He will be paid subsistence allowance as admissible under the rules.”
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered sweeping action, suspending the Deputy Commissioner, Executive Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Assistant Engineer, and Junior Engineer.
The move comes a day after the decades‑old building housing a private hostel collapsed, sparking outrage over safety lapses in student accommodations. Police have already registered a case against the building owner and others, while a magisterial inquiry is underway.
