A low-pressure area has formed over the coastal region adjoining the Bay of Bengal, triggering a fresh spell of rain across Odisha on Saturday.
The weather system is expected to bring more rainfall to several parts of the state, with thunderstorms and lightning likely in many areas. North Odisha is likely to receive heavy rainfall under the influence of the system.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, has issued an orange alert for six districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Six districts under orange alert
Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur have been placed under the orange alert.
The warning indicates the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in these districts, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain cautious.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued for 24 other districts, indicating the possibility of adverse weather conditions in several parts of Odisha.
Rainfall to intensify from Sunday
Rainfall activity is expected to increase further from Sunday, with many areas likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next four days.
The developing weather system is expected to continue moving west-northwestwards during the next 48 hours.
Its movement through the North Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal region is likely to influence weather conditions across Odisha and maintain the spell of rain.

With the system progressing and rainfall expected to intensify, authorities have issued alerts and advised people in affected areas to remain vigilant.
