Another YouTuber claims legal notice from Toxic team over review, calls out Yash

The controversy surrounding Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has intensified, with another YouTuber claiming to have received a legal notice from the film’s team over his review.

YouTuber Prashanth Rangaswamy, who posted a critical “Murugal Roast” of the film, alleged on X that he had received a legal notice from Yash and KVN Productions. He also took a swipe at the actor, describing him as “another rich and influential person.”

However, unlike another YouTuber who recently shared a screenshot of an alleged legal notice, Rangaswamy did not post the document publicly. His claim could not be independently verified.

Another YouTuber makes similar claim

The latest development follows a similar allegation by YouTuber Suraj Kumar. On Thursday, Kumar shared a screenshot of an email purportedly sent by Bengaluru-based Aiplex Software Private Limited, showing an authorisation letter from the makers of Toxic for the firm to enforce the court’s order.

Rangaswamy’s review, meanwhile, remained available online at the time of publication.

The claims come amid heightened scrutiny of the film’s approach towards critical reviews following a Bengaluru court order.

What did the Bengaluru court order say?

According to PTI, a Bengaluru court on August 22 passed an ex parte temporary injunction restraining the publication or circulation of false or defamatory content against Toxic.

The case also names a “John Doe” defendant, a legal designation used for unidentified persons who may be involved in the alleged publication or circulation of such content.

The temporary injunction is set to remain in force until the next hearing on September 28, subject to the conditions imposed by the court. The order is limited to the purpose for which it was granted.

The legal development has drawn attention because film reviews and online criticism can have a major impact during a movie’s theatrical run, particularly over its opening days.

Toxic team and Aiplex under scrutiny

The film’s makers have engaged Aiplex for enforcement-related services. Similar tactics have previously been used in connection with major Telugu and Kannada film releases, including efforts to address allegedly defamatory or unauthorised online content.

The issue has also sparked a wider debate over the balance between protecting a film’s reputation and allowing critics and audiences to freely express their opinions.

Yash’s Toxic details

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is produced by Venkat K Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations LLP.

The film stars Yash in dual roles and features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.

As more reviewers discuss the film online, the latest legal-notice claim is likely to keep the conversation around Toxic, its reviews and the limits of online criticism in the spotlight.
