The Odisha government has directed all district administrations to maintain strict vigilance and transparency in land registration processes across the state.
The move follows a major forgery case reported from Nuapada district.
In a communication to Collectors, Additional Chief Secretary Dr Arabinda Kumar Padhee of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department emphasised the need for technology‑driven systems to enhance accountability and prevent irregularities.
The directive came after the suspension of Sarveshwar Jaal, Tahsildar of Komna and acting Sub‑Registrar, for allegedly facilitating fraudulent registration of a large land parcel in collusion with vested interests. The suspension was ordered immediately after the Nuapada Collector submitted a preliminary report confirming malpractice.
Dr Padhee has instructed all Collectors to ensure regular monitoring and surprise inspections of registration offices by Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) and District Registrars. The aim is to detect and prevent irregularities in real time.
The department reiterated that no form of misconduct will be tolerated, and offenders will face strict action. The state government’s priority, officials said, is to ensure transparency, technological efficiency, and rule compliance at every stage of the registration process.
