Police have arrested 113 people and forwarded them to court following violent clashes during the rideshare drivers’ protest at Master Canteen and Station Square on Wednesday.
Another 60 individuals were released on bonds for maintaining good behaviour, while 354 vehicles were seized in connection with the incident.
According to a press note issued Thursday, seven FIRs were registered at Kharavela Nagar police station – two based on public complaints, four from Ama Bus staff, and one from a police personnel.
The protest, organised by app‑based taxi and auto drivers, sought regulation of fares charged by aggregator platforms, compensation for waiting time and cancellations, and restrictions on adding new vehicles. Demonstrators allegedly blocked roads, pelted stones at police, and vandalised at least 10 Ama buses and two police vehicles.
Police resorted to baton charges and water cannons to disperse the crowd. Several officers, including Capital PS Inspector‑in‑Charge Radhakanta Sahu, sustained injuries. Authorities have warned of strict legal action against anyone found taking the law into their own hands.
