Train services on the Baripada–Bangiriposi route were suspended late Sunday night after around 50 metres of railway track sank near Sunagadia in Station Bazar, following incessant rainfall.
The damage was detected during the movement of a DMU train, shortly after the Puri–Bangiriposi Superfast Express had passed safely through the section earlier in the day.
Railway maintenance personnel rushed to the site and began restoration work at midnight. Teams have been working continuously to repair the damaged track.
Officials confirmed that services will resume only after the track is declared safe for train movement.
The incident highlights the growing impact of heavy monsoon rains on Odisha’s transport infrastructure, with authorities urging passengers to remain alert for updates on train schedules.
