Odisha will soon have a new Lokayukta, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari announced on Tuesday, confirming that the appointment process has already begun.
Pujari said a meeting regarding the appointment has been held and the financial procedures related to the post have also started. He expressed confidence that the process would be completed soon.
Explaining the procedure, the minister noted that the Lokayukta selection is carried out under constitutional provisions, involving the Chief Minister, the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, and the Leader of the Opposition. “The first meeting has already been held. The decision is taken on the basis of majority. We hope Odisha will see a new Lokayukta in the coming days,” Pujari said.
Responding to Opposition criticism over alleged delays, Pujari argued that two years cannot be considered long compared to the 24 years the previous government was in power. He claimed the present government has achieved in two years what the previous regime could not accomplish in over two decades.
