A shocking incident unfolded in the Odisha capital as a drug‑addicted son allegedly killed his father with a stone during a late‑night domestic dispute in Chakeisiani under Mancheswar police station limits.
The accused, identified as S Debaraj, allegedly attacked his father S Durjyadhan following a long‑standing family feud. Police said the father died on the spot. After the murder, Debaraj reportedly threatened his mother, forcing other family members to flee the house.
The family, originally from Ganjam district, had been living in Bhubaneswar as labourers. Authorities revealed that Debaraj had previously undergone treatment at a de‑addiction centre but relapsed before committing the crime.
Police have detained the accused and launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and motive.
This marks the second murder in Chakeisiani within 24 hours. On Monday, another man allegedly killed his estranged wife, Monika Jena, before attempting suicide. Commissionerate Police confirmed both cases are under investigation, raising concerns about rising domestic violence in the city.
