A shocking discovery has surfaced near the Mohana Community Health Centre in Gajapati district, where large quantities of government‑supplied medicines were found dumped in a trash heap and an abandoned house behind the facility’s medicine warehouse.
According to reports, several packets contained expired drugs, while others were still within their validity period. Locals spotted the discarded medicines and alerted authorities, prompting the District Public Health Officer (DPHO) to order an immediate probe.
Officials said that under government norms, expired medicines must be disposed of through a regulated process to prevent misuse or contamination. The presence of unexpired medicines among the discarded stock has raised serious questions about negligence and accountability.
The DPHO confirmed that the department has begun an inquiry to trace the source of the medicines and identify those responsible for the improper disposal. “Action will be taken after the investigation,” the officer assured.
