A tragic incident has been reported from Muturumunda Sevashram hostel in Naktideul block, where a girl student died allegedly due to medical negligence.
The deceased, Jasminta Badai of Kulbasa village in Deogarh district, was studying at the Sevashram this year. On Wednesday night, she complained of illness. Her elder sister informed hostel matron Jayanti Bala Sahu, but no immediate medical help was arranged. Authorities reportedly waited until morning to take her to the Redhakhol Sub‑Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Family members alleged that the delay in treatment caused her death. The mother, Sunita Badai, accused the matron and headmaster Pranab Kishore Pradhan of negligence.
Following the incident, Redhakhol police launched an investigation, while departmental officials including DWOs and WEOs conducted a preliminary inquiry. The Social Security Department assured that strict action would be taken against those found responsible and that financial assistance would be provided to the family as per government norms.
The student’s body has been sent for post‑mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Officials acknowledged that Sevashram hostels in the region have faced repeated complaints of mismanagement in food and living conditions, prompting calls for stricter oversight.
