The district administration has formally notified that the correct spelling of Odisha’s Steel City will henceforth be ‘Raurkela’ in all official correspondence, documents, and records.
In a notification issued on July 21, 2026, the Office of the Additional District Magistrate, Raurkela, stated that the name shall be written as ‘Raurkela’ across all official letters, reports, notifications, signages, and communications.
The order was issued in reference to a directive from the Revenue & Disaster Management Department and a subsequent letter dated July 20, 2026, confirming the standardised spelling for administrative uniformity.
The notification has been circulated to all departments and public offices in Raurkela for strict compliance and wide publicity. Officials have been instructed to ensure that the corrected spelling is used consistently in all government documents, boards, and digital platforms.
The move aims to eliminate discrepancies in the city’s name that have persisted for years across various records and signages, ensuring a unified identity for the industrial hub known for its steel production and cultural diversity.
With this directive, Raurkela’s name will now appear uniformly in all official and public references, reaffirming its status as Odisha’s Steel City.
