The Rengali Police in Sambalpur district have arrested three persons, including two minors, for allegedly attacking two youths with knives and tridents over a theft suspicion in Betripada village.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on July 19 afternoon near the village Shiva temple when a dispute over an old theft case turned violent. The prime accused, Karan Guru (20), along with his two minor brothers, allegedly assaulted Sujan Guru and his younger brother Saroj Guru (17) after being questioned about a theft at Angaraj Bag’s shop.
During the confrontation, Karan reportedly stabbed Saroj with a knife, while the two minors attacked Sujan with tridents. Both victims sustained serious injuries — Saroj suffered a deep head wound, and Sujan sustained injuries to his abdomen and thigh.
The injured were first admitted to Rengali Primary Health Centre and later shifted to VIMSAR, Burla, as their condition worsened. Following a written complaint lodged by Saroj Guru on July 20, police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Acting swiftly, Rengali Police arrested Karan Guru and produced him before court, while the two minors were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. Police also seized one knife and two tridents from the scene.
