Indian ace PV Sindhu scripted history at the Japan Open 2026, defeating long‑time rival Chen Yufei of China 21‑19, 15‑10 to secure her maiden final appearance at the prestigious tournament.
The win snapped a five‑match losing streak against Yufei and marked Sindhu’s long‑awaited return to a BWF Tour final.
Sindhu looked sharp and aggressive from the outset, dictating rallies and breaking through Yufei’s resilient defence with smart cross‑court drops and tactical precision. The opening game saw a gripping 51‑shot rally and a tense 19‑19 scoreline, but Sindhu raised her intensity to close it out 21‑19.
In the second game, Sindhu raced ahead 11‑7 at the break, while Yufei struggled with a hamstring injury. The Chinese shuttler eventually retired, handing Sindhu a well‑earned victory.
Coming into the semifinal fresh after a walkover in the quarters, Sindhu showcased energy and composure. She now awaits the winner of Akane Yamaguchi vs. Putri Kusuma Wardani in Sunday’s final, continuing her strong run on the BWF Tour.
