Odisha is set to hold Panchayat elections in April and May this year, according to information shared by the State Election Commission’s Secretary.
Officials confirmed that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will continue until the first week of March, after which preparations for the polls will begin.
The Commission’s secretary stated that meetings with RDCs and district collectors have already taken place to finalise arrangements for both Panchayat and urban local body elections. A routine meeting is scheduled for July 21 to review progress.
This time, officials will conduct door-to-door visits to prepare updated voter lists. The state currently has 6,794 Panchayats with 91,930 wards or booths.
Authorities emphasised that the slight delay in scheduling elections ensures accuracy in voter rolls and smooth conduct of the polls. The Commission is coordinating with district administrations to streamline logistics and security measures.
