What began as a routine evening turned into a scene of chaos and violence late last night in the Budha Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar.
Around 9:25 pm, a young man identified as Subham Swaraj was allegedly set upon by a group of more than 10 armed individuals near Block No. 11, leaving him injured.
According to police, the attackers arrived wielding lethal weapons and launched a targeted assault on Subham Swaraj and his friend with clear intent to cause grievous harm.
The shocking incident has triggered two counter FIRs at Chandrasekharpur Police Station, highlighting the deep divide between rival groups in the locality. Case No. 671/2026 has been registered against the attacking group under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempt to murder, along with provisions of the Arms Act. In a swift counter-move, the opposing group lodged their own complaint, leading to Case No. 672/2026 with allegations of violence from their side as well.
Both cases stem from the same violent episode but present sharply conflicting narratives. Chandrasekharpur Police have made it clear that they are conducting an impartial investigation, examining the role of every individual involved without bias. During the course of the investigation, police recovered one RE motorcycle, two scooters, one sword, one machette and two wooden stumps allegedly used in the clash.
Ten persons named as accused are Uttam Mekaup (IRC Village), Swadheen Kumar Nayak (Bharatpur), Badal Mohapatra (Salia Sahi), Saroj Kumar Nayak (Salia Sahi), Jyotiranjan Nayak (Salia Sahi), Santo Behera (Maha Mangala Basti), Sagar Sahoo (Near ISKCON Temple), Rajeen Nayak (Salia Sahi), Lokanath Behera (Bhoi Nagar) and Sarat Khatua (Gouda Sahi).
Senior police officials confirmed that the investigation is in progress and all possible angles, including the sequence of events and the role of each accused, are being thoroughly examined. Further action will be taken based on evidence collected.
