Balangir district witnessed a shocking incident when villagers brutally assaulted forest officials during a plantation drive in Jubamal village under Turekela police limits.
According to reports, forest staff had gone to the Mundapada area to supervise afforestation work on encroached forest land. A forester was suddenly attacked with sticks by locals. When he called for reinforcements, three forest guards and two para-squad staff reached the spot. The villagers allegedly assaulted them as well, dragging and beating them in full public view.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, bringing the matter to light. The footage shows villagers thrashing the officials, sparking outrage over the brazen attack.
At least six forest personnel sustained injuries, including one forester, three guards, and two para-squad members. They were later shifted for medical treatment.
Turekela police have launched an investigation. Sources said the accused villagers fled the scene and remain absconding. Officials confirmed that no formal government response has been issued yet.
