A minor girl’s decomposed body was recovered from the forest near the Hirakud Reservoir’s fishery point in Burla, Sambalpur.
The victim, aged 17, had been missing from the Bargarh district since March 19. Police suspect that the girl was abducted, gang-raped, and murdered, with multiple individuals involved in the crime.
The male friend of the victim has been taken into custody, and during initial interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Authorities are now pursuing another suspect who remains at large.
The girl’s body was sent for an autopsy in the presence of a magistrate, and forensic evidence has been collected. Police are confident about apprehending the absconding accused soon.
The incident has shocked the community and raised serious concerns about safety and law enforcement.
