In a proud moment for Odisha and India, renowned sand artist Padma Shri Sudarsan Pattnaik was felicitated by Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati at Lok Bhavan on Tuesday for his historic victory at the Russian Grand Sand Master Cup 2026.
Pattnaik clinched the prestigious international title at the global sand sculpture festival held in Kaliningrad, Russia, becoming the first Indian sand artist to achieve this rare honour.
The Governor extended warm congratulations, describing the win as a matter of immense pride not just for Odisha but for the entire nation. “This achievement has further elevated India’s stature in the global arena of art and culture,” Dr. Kambhampati said. He particularly praised Pattnaik’s award-winning sand sculpture, which powerfully depicted the worldwide challenge of climate change and its impact on humanity.
The Governor lauded the artist for consistently using his ephemeral medium to spread vital social and environmental messages, creating awareness about pressing global issues.“Through sand art, Sudarshan has turned a temporary canvas into a powerful tool for change,” the Governor noted.
Expressing confidence in the artist’s future endeavours, Dr. Kambhampati wished him continued success and hoped that his creative journey would keep inspiring millions while promoting Odisha’s rich cultural heritage on the world stage.
