A major mishap struck the Brahmani River in Angul district when a fishing boat capsized during a sudden storm, leaving two youths missing.
The incident occurred near Nandijhari village under Khamar police limits as several young men ventured into the river for fishing.
Witnesses said the boat overturned in the middle of the river as strong winds and heavy rain lashed the area. Some of the youths managed to swim back to the shore, but two, identified as Anil Jamunda and another villager, could not be traced.
Family members immediately alerted the fire services after frantic searches failed to locate the missing youths. Rescue teams launched operations late Thursday night and continued efforts through Friday, but no trace of the two has been found so far.
Authorities confirmed that the search operation remains underway with divers and boats deployed to comb the river.
