Political circles in Odisha are abuzz with speculation that Sujata Karthikeyan Pandian, wife of former IAS officer and BJD strategist V.K. Pandian, may soon join the Biju Janata Dal.
Sujata, who recently took voluntary retirement from the IAS, is being seen as a potential entrant into the party’s leadership fold.
BJD’s Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha candidate Manmath Keshari Routaray confirmed that discussions are underway regarding her induction. He said party members are eager to welcome Sujata and would roll out the red carpet for her. He added that she would work as a regular party worker without seeking any official post, focusing on Odisha’s development.
Routaray emphasised that Sujata’s intellect and administrative experience could strengthen the party and fill a leadership gap. He noted that her presence would multiply BJD’s strength and energise the cadre.
Former MLA Prashant Muduli remarked that while the party president has not issued any formal statement, Sujata’s entry would enhance organisational power. He said there would be no objection if she joined.
Sujata, a 2000 batch IAS officer, held significant influence during her tenure in the BJD government. Her husband resigned from service before the last election to join politics, while she remained in service until March 2025, when she opted for voluntary retirement.
Though Sujata has not publicly confirmed her decision, Routaray’s comments have intensified speculation. Political observers believe her entry could reshape BJD’s internal dynamics and boost its organisational strength.
