A late-night fire engulfed an ambulance near Khananagar Square in Cuttack on Sunday, narrowly sparing a patient, a child, and the ambulance staff.
The vehicle was heading toward Shishu Bhavan when flames suddenly erupted.
Eyewitnesses said the ambulance was moving from Khananagar Square toward Purighat when the fire broke out. The vehicle had arrived from Badachana in Jajpur district carrying a patient. The driver and attendants quickly evacuated the patient and child before the flames spread.
Firefighters reached the spot after receiving information and brought the blaze under control. Despite their efforts, the ambulance was completely gutted. Officials confirmed that no one sustained injuries and all occupants escaped safely.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest a possible electrical short circuit. Locals praised the quick response of the ambulance staff and fire service personnel, whose timely action prevented a tragedy.
