Odisha Crime Branch initiated a formal enquiry against a senior IPS officer after allegations surfaced in connection with the Soumya murder case.
The directive followed a complaint filed with the National Human Rights Commission by Bhajaman Biswal, who alleged that deceased constable Soumya was forced to perform domestic work for a senior IPS officer. The CID‑CB letter, issued from Cuttack on May 26, 2026, instructed the Additional Director General of Police, Railway and Coastal Security, to conduct a detailed investigation and submit a report by May 30.
The communication, approved by the DGP, Odisha, enclosed the NHRC reference and requested a comprehensive reply to the Commission. Sources confirmed that Soumya’s mother had accused ADG Dayal Gangwar of using her son for household work and malice.
The Odisha Crime Branch investigation seeks to verify the allegations and determine whether any misconduct occurred within the department. Officials stated that the Railway and Coastal Security wing will lead the probe under the supervision of a senior IPS officer.
The Odisha Crime Branch investigation underscores the state’s commitment to transparency and accountability in law enforcement. Authorities expect the report to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged misuse and its link to the constable’s death.
