Bhubaneswar witnessed a dramatic weather shift on Saturday as Nor’wester rain and gusty winds lashed the capital, bringing relief from oppressive heat that had touched a “feels like” 47°C earlier in the day.
By 8:30 a.m., the city recorded 33°C with 77% humidity, creating unbearable conditions for residents. The heat index soared to 47°C, making outdoor movement difficult. People reported burning sensations in their eyes and skin while walking through the streets.
The India Meteorological Department had forecast the possibility of Nor’wester activity, and by afternoon, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds swept across several parts of the city. Dark clouds gathered, followed by showers that cooled the atmosphere.
The sudden storm uprooted trees in multiple areas, disrupting traffic and damaging property. Residents welcomed the rain as a respite from the relentless heat and humidity that had gripped the capital for days.
