The Government of Odisha appointed Sudhansu Sekhar Barpanda as Member of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC).
The Energy Department issued the official notification under Sub-section (5) of Section 82 of the Electricity Act, 2003. The order confirmed that Barpanda will assume charge from the date he takes office.
The notification stated, “In exercise of the power conferred under Sub-section 5 of Section 82 of the Electricity Act, 2003 (No. 36 of 2003), the State Government appoints Shri Sudhansu Sekhar Barpanda as Member, Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) with effect from the date he assumes the Office.”
Barpanda’s appointment strengthens the regulatory framework of the state’s power sector. OERC plays a crucial role in tariff regulation, consumer protection, and the monitoring of electricity distribution. His inclusion is expected to enhance transparency and efficiency in governance.
The Energy Department emphasised that the appointment aligns with statutory provisions and ensures continuity in the commission’s functioning. The decision reflects Odisha’s commitment to effective electricity regulation and consumer welfare.
