Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday led a massive protest in Kolkata against alleged post-poll violence targeting party workers, supporters and senior leaders.

The protest, held at Esplanade’s Y-channel in central Kolkata, witnessed the participation of thousands of TMC supporters and leaders. The demonstration comes amid escalating political tensions in the state following recent electoral developments.

Mamata Banerjee Takes to the Streets

Mamata Banerjee personally joined the sit-in protest, accusing political opponents of orchestrating attacks against TMC workers and leaders across different parts of West Bengal.

Addressing supporters, Banerjee adopted a defiant stance and declared that her party would continue its struggle against political violence.

According to party leaders, the protest was organised to highlight alleged attacks on grassroots workers and prominent leaders, including TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Venue Dispute Adds to Political Tensions

The TMC claimed that Kolkata Police did not permit the party to hold the protest at the adjacent Rani Rashmoni Road, which was originally requested as the venue.

As a result, the party shifted the demonstration to Esplanade’s Y-channel, where senior leaders and supporters gathered in large numbers.

The venue issue quickly became part of the political narrative, with party leaders questioning the restrictions imposed on the protest location.

Political Temperature Rises in West Bengal

The protest marks another significant chapter in West Bengal’s increasingly heated political environment following the state elections.

TMC leaders have repeatedly alleged that party workers are facing intimidation and violence in several districts. Opposition parties, however, have rejected these allegations and accused the ruling party of attempting to divert attention from governance issues.

The latest demonstration underscores the continuing political rivalry between the Trinamool Congress and its opponents as both sides seek to strengthen their position in the state.

Focus on Party Cadres and Leadership

During the protest, TMC leaders reiterated their commitment to protecting party workers and maintaining organisational unity. The gathering also served as a show of strength, highlighting the party’s mobilisation capabilities despite recent political challenges.

Political observers believe the protest is aimed at energising the party base while sending a message that the leadership remains firmly aligned with grassroots workers.
