Police in Jagatsinghpur arrested junior clerk Sanjay Adheka after discovering a hidden camera inside the women’s washroom at the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) office.
Investigators revealed that Adheka installed the device after his one-sided affection for a female colleague was rejected.
Superintendent of Police Ankit Verma confirmed during a press briefing that Adheka purchased the spy camera online in January after learning about such devices through YouTube. He installed it in March and monitored footage remotely on his mobile phone. Police said he removed the device weekly for charging before reinstalling it in the same spot.
The incident came to light on May 25 when a woman employee noticed the device after it fell to the floor. She immediately alerted senior officials, leading to a complaint filed at Tirtol Police Station on May 26. Police seized the hidden camera, a mobile phone, a pen drive, and a CCTV hard disk from the accused.
Adheka admitted during interrogation that he had been viewing footage from the washroom. He reportedly apologised and pleaded for leniency. Following his arrest, the district administration suspended him from duty.
Authorities assured strict legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
