A migrant family from Kalahandi district released a video message pleading for rescue after being held in bondage at a brick kiln in Telangana for 16 months.

The family of Tarini Majhi from Paria village under Chingudisara panchayat in Junagarh block claimed they faced physical torture and restrictions on returning home.

According to the family, they left for Telangana in February 2025 after accepting an advance of ₹60,000 from a contractor. Tarini Majhi, his wife, and three young children began working at the kiln but soon found themselves trapped. They alleged that the owner confined them, provided only ration supplies, and forced them to work day and night.

The family stated that refusal to work led to beatings and threats. They accused the contractor of tying them up and assaulting them. In their video appeal, they urged the Kalahandi district administration and local representatives to intervene and secure their release.

The case highlights the continuing menace of bonded labour and the exploitation of migrant workers from Kalahandi. Despite repeated tragedies where workers return home in coffins or never return at all, the cycle of debt and bondage persists. Social media users widely shared the video, amplifying calls for immediate government action.

The plight of Tarini Majhi’s family underscores the urgent need for stronger enforcement of labour rights and rehabilitation measures. Activists demanded swift rescue operations and accountability for those responsible for the abuse.
