A shocking case of human trafficking and sexual exploitation has surfaced in Dhenkanal district.
A minor girl from Kamakhyanagar was allegedly sold in Uttar Pradesh under the pretext of a job offer and subjected to repeated sexual abuse.
Police said the girl was taken to Bhubaneswar by a youth from the Kankadahad area who promised her employment. He later sold her three times to different agents in Jhansi. The victim alleged that she was forced into sexual exploitation and even underwent an abortion during her captivity.
After two years of confinement, the girl managed to escape from Jhansi and returned to Odisha. She reached the Kamakhyanagar police station and lodged a detailed complaint describing her ordeal.
Investigators confirmed that the accused youth belongs to Kankadahad and is currently absconding. Police have launched a search operation to trace him and the other agents involved in the trafficking network.
The victim is undergoing medical examination and counselling. Officials said the case will be treated under stringent sections of the POCSO Act and human trafficking laws.
Authorities have also initiated coordination with Uttar Pradesh Police to identify the locations and individuals linked to the crime.
