96 from Marsh, 60 from Inglis – LSG’s Storm Brews Trouble for RR’s Chase

In a high-octane TATA IPL 2026 encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Tuesday, Lucknow Super Giants unleashed a formidable batting display, posting a challenging 220 for 5 in their 20 overs against Rajasthan Royals.

The innings, aptly dubbed a “batting storm” by the official IPL handle, was spearheaded by explosive knocks from Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis, leaving RR with a daunting 221-run target.

Opting to bat first after losing the toss, LSG got off to a flyer thanks to the opening pair of Marsh and Inglis. The duo forged a blistering 109-run partnership in just 50 balls, with Inglis reaching a rapid fifty off 23 deliveries. His 60 off 29 balls, laced with 7 fours and 3 sixes, set the tone for an aggressive PowerPlay and beyond. Marsh, the anchor-turned-aggressor, hammered 96 off 57 balls (11 fours, 5 sixes) before falling run out in the dying stages, narrowly missing a well-deserved century.

Rishabh Pant, LSG’s skipper and wicketkeeper, chipped in with a quick 35 off 23, ensuring the momentum didn’t dip in the middle overs. Despite a late wobble that saw three wickets tumble in the final over – including Marsh’s unfortunate run-out and Ayush Badoni’s golden duck – LSG crossed the 200-run mark comfortably. Jofra Archer picked up one wicket for RR but leaked 39 runs in his four overs, while debutant Sushant Mishra went wicketless for 46.

The pitch in Jaipur offered good bounce and carry, rewarding stroke-makers on a warm evening. LSG’s aggressive intent from ball one overwhelmed RR’s bowling attack, which struggled to contain the boundaries despite some tidy spells in the death overs.

With the league stage nearing its business end, this total puts LSG in a strong position to boost their playoff hopes. RR, known for their chasing prowess, now face a stiff test under lights. Can their top order, led by the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag, pull off a record chase? Or will LSG’s bowlers, including the experienced Mohammed Shami and Mayank Yadav, defend the total?
