Joao Fonseca, the 19-year-old Brazilian tennis sensation, has withdrawn from the Bitpanda Hamburg Open due to discomfort in his right wrist.
The decision, announced via Instagram, was made in consultation with his team as a precautionary measure to safeguard his fitness ahead of the upcoming Roland Garros.
Fonseca expressed gratitude to the tournament organisers for their support and hospitality, promising to return stronger. Despite the setback, his season has been marked by impressive performances, including clay-court quarter-final runs in Monte-Carlo and Munich. He has also tested top-ranked players, pushing Jannik Sinner to two tie-breaks at Indian Wells, taking a set off Alexander Zverev in Monte-Carlo, and challenging Ben Shelton in Munich.
Currently ranked No. 30 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, Fonseca’s resilience and competitive spirit continue to capture attention. His withdrawal underscores the importance of long-term fitness management for young athletes navigating the demands of the ATP Tour.
