A tragic accident claimed two lives and left three critically injured after a car and a truck collided head-on in the Papadahandi block of Nabarangpur district.
On May 17, 2026, a family from Andhra Pradesh was returning from Puri to Nabarangpur in car AP40EP1223. The vehicle carried two women, two men, and a child. Near Jhitikiguda on National Highway 26, the car collided head-on with a trawler TN28BK6116 heading toward Kalahandi.
Police and fire services rushed to the spot and rescued all five passengers. They were admitted to Papadahandi Community Health Centre. Doctors declared the two women dead after preliminary treatment. The three survivors remained in critical condition and were shifted to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital for advanced care.
The accident shocked locals, who witnessed the mangled vehicles and the rescue operation. Authorities initiated an investigation into the collision and arranged medical support for the injured.
