A fire broke out in the B-1 coach of the Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express on Sunday morning, triggering panic among passengers before railway officials safely evacuated everyone from the affected coach.
According to railway authorities, the incident occurred while the train was travelling between Luni Richha and Vikramgarh Alot stations in the down direction.
Officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported among passengers or railway staff.
Passengers Evacuated After Smoke Detected
The fire reportedly started near the SLR end of the B-1 coach at kilometre point 729/02.
Railway authorities acted quickly after the blaze was detected and immediately evacuated passengers from the affected coach to ensure their safety.
As a precautionary step, the overhead electric (OHE) supply was temporarily shut down to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Damaged Coach Detached From Train
Officials from West Central Railway said the damaged B-1 coach was detached from the rake while firefighting teams and senior railway officers rushed to the site to control the situation.
Emergency response teams worked to contain the fire and inspect nearby coaches for any potential damage.
The exact extent of damage to the coach has not yet been officially disclosed.
Rail Traffic Affected On Route
The incident temporarily disrupted train movement on the route.
Railway authorities confirmed that Train No. 12955 was detained at Mahidpur Road station for some time due to the emergency operations and safety checks being conducted on the affected section.
Efforts were later initiated to restore normal rail traffic at the earliest.
Investigation Underway
Railway officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Preliminary inquiries are examining whether the blaze was triggered by an electrical fault, technical malfunction, or another operational issue.
Authorities said a detailed report will be prepared after the inspection is completed
