Gyaneshwari Yadav delivered a record-breaking performance at the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026, lifting a total of 194 kg in the women’s 53 kg division.
She won a silver medal in snatch and a bronze overall, marking one of the finest moments of her career.
She lifted 88 kg in snatch, setting a new national record and personal best. Her clean and jerk of 106 kg secured third place, just below her previous best of 107 kg. The combined total of 194 kg earned her a podium finish and underscored her consistency under pressure.
Competing at 51.4 kg, below the category limit, Gyaneshwari displayed potential to reach a 200 kg total soon. Her performance highlighted India’s growing strength in women’s weightlifting and opened new possibilities in the recently introduced 53 kg class.
When a top competitor withdrew due to injury, Gyaneshwari capitalised on the opportunity with precision and composure. Her strong snatch start placed her ahead early, and she maintained steady form throughout the contest.
Koyel Bar, another Indian lifter, finished with 188 kg, but Gyaneshwari’s superior snatch gave her the edge. Her technical execution and mental focus demonstrated India’s rising depth in the sport.
